Articulate Storyline


During this 4 week course, students will learn how to navigate the Storyline environment and harness the features and capabilities of the software to develop effective eLearning projects. Students will complete a project over the course of four 3-hour live sessions. Students will be expected to devote 2-4 hours each week outside of class for developing their projects.

Each session is delivered in a live, interactive online environment.

  • Introduction to Storyline
  • Create a New Project
  • Working with Scenes and Slides
  • Adding and Editing Text Boxes
  • Incorporating Multimedia Elements – Graphics, Audio/Video, and other Media
  • Working with Objects
  • Creating and Managing States
  • Creating and Managing Layers
  • Adding and Managing Action Triggers (e.g. buttons, check boxes, hotspots, etc.)
  • Creating and Managing Variables
  • Creating Assessments
  • Creating Screen Recordings
  • Working with the Player
  • Publishing Formats and Export Options (e.g. Web, LMS, CD, etc.)


The Center uses Adobe Connect for delivering live training via the Web. In order to attend The Center’s virtual classes, please review the following technical requirements below to ensure you will be able to access and participate in the course:


Course will be taught using a Windows Environment. Students will need to use the Windows version of Captivate 7 for class sessions and homework.

  • Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7/8
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer, versions 7-10; Mozilla Firefox; Google Chrome
  • Adobe® Flash® Player 10.3 or later

To be completed before first class session:
As this course is designed to be interactive, with students being assigned project work in between class sessions, students must have access to a working version of Articulate Storyline. A 30-day, fully functional trial version can be downloaded from Articulate’s website. The trial version can be used at no cost through the end of the 30-day trial window.
